Eze Gad Uko Charles Ohaeri was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and patriarch whose presence commanded both love and respect. Within the family, he was affectionately known by his children as “Police”, a name that reflected his uncompromising standards, firm discipline, and deep belief in order, responsibility, and the fear of God. He was not a man to be taken lightly, yet beneath that stern exterior was a father who cared profoundly about the character, conduct, and future of those entrusted to him. His children remember him with a mixture of awe, reverence, and affection, knowing that his strictness was rooted in duty and in his determination to raise a strong and upright family.

Beyond his home, Eze Gad was committed to the progress of his community. He supported the regeneration and development of Amaoba regions/communities and took pride in contributing to the wellbeing of those around him. He was well liked, generous in spirit, and respected for the way he carried himself. Handsome, confident, and sociable, he made a lasting impression wherever he went. He travelled, enjoyed meeting people, and possessed the warmth and charm that drew others to him, while remaining deeply devoted to his wife and family.

One of his great personal joys was cooking. Food was part of the way he expressed care, hospitality, and family togetherness. He raised not only his own sons and daughters, but also helped guide and support the wider family around him. Among those closest to his heart was his first grandchild, Chief. Odogwu Ekene Samuel Charles Ohaeri, with whom he shared a particularly strong bond.

That devotion was later returned with extraordinary loyalty. After his grandfather’s passing, Chief. Odogwu Ekene Samuel Charles Ohaeri courageously navigated customary protocol and royal process to secure the posthumous elevation of his grandfather from Mazi to Eze, ensuring that his life, service, and standing were formally recognised and honoured.

Chief Odogwu Ekene Samuel Charles Ohaeri was also instrumental in establishing the first memorial event dedicated to Eze Gad, with the full support of the family and the King of the Amaoba-Ikputu community. Through that remembrance, the family transformed grief into legacy and ensured that Eze Gad’s name would continue to be spoken with honour. He is survived by his beloved wife, a great company of children, grandchildren, and descendants who remain united by his memory. They remember a formidable disciplinarian, a generous community man, a loving patriarch, and a father whose influence continues to shape the family long after his passing.
